LawFeed ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. Who We Are

LawFeed is a UK legal intelligence and continuing competence platform operated by Aethel Systems Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. Registered address: 82, Unit A James Carter Road, Mildenhall, IP28 7DE. Our service is available at lawfeed.co.uk.

2. Data We Collect

Account data: Your name, email address, job title, SRA number, and firm name — provided when you sign up.

Preferences: Your chosen practice areas, email frequency, and notification preferences.

Usage data: Quizzes you complete, learning hours logged, and competence certificates generated.

Payment data: Handled entirely by Stripe. We never store card details. We only store your Stripe customer ID and subscription status.

Technical data: Standard server logs including IP addresses and request timestamps, retained for up to 30 days.

3. How We Use Your Data

Legal basis: Contract performance (your subscription), legitimate interests (platform security), and consent (marketing emails).

4. Data Processors We Use

All processors are bound by data processing agreements and comply with UK GDPR.

5. Email Communications

We send email digests of legal updates based on your preferences. You can change your email frequency or unsubscribe at any time from your Settings page or by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data is removed from our active systems within 30 days. Continuing competence records are archived (not deleted) for 7 years to support SRA compliance requirements, unless you request full deletion.

8. Cookies

LawFeed uses browser localStorage (not cookies) to store your session preferences and account state. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.

9. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication via Supabase, and access controls on all systems. We do not store passwords — authentication is handled by Supabase Auth.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. We'll notify you of significant changes by email. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
